Beads, beads, beads!

Twice a year, Sandown Race Course hosts The Big Bead Show, and I popped along earlier today to spend my pocket money, before dashing home for the rugby.

Most people who go tend to show off their favourite creations when they go to events like these.  I chose to wear the most complicated necklace I’ve made.

Lots of beads

This took a good couple of months to make.  It’s a pretty simple peyote stitch, but the different sized and shaped beads give it a wave effect.

First call was going to see my wonderful friend Steph, who owns Absolute Beads.  AB is not just a supplier of all things beady.  Steph puts a lot of work into building a diverse community of people around it, including a vibrant Facebook group, regular competitions and monthly meet-ups.  Steph managed to secure one of the four tables available this year for bead clubs.  As well as to get hugs, I had to stop by to drop off a few pieces I’d promised I’d let Steph display for the day.

Then it was on to the shopping.  I was on the hunt for supplies for a Secret Project, and managed to track down what I needed. Mostly just an epic quantity of seed beads, with some co-ordinating Czech Fire Polished and glass pearls.

Beeeeeaaaddss.
Yes, those are 100g bags of seed beads …

But there was time for a few other things too.  I raided Dee‘s bargain bin for some lovely ceramic cabochons.

I also found some beautiful ones from Designer Cabochons (though I managed to resist the unusual ones made from old bowling balls).
